Dutch winter delight

The arrival of Dutch winter is  announced not by the darkness at 16:00, but by the “oliebollen” trucks which appear at almost each train station or market around the country.

The recipe is quite easy: water, flour and sugar – make a simple dough from it, combine it with raisins, apple or any other thing you want, and deep fry it. From here the name comes too – “oil ball”, being in the end a deep fried doughnut. It is usually served with a lot of sugar, but you can say, of course, if you want sugar or not on it.

It is cold, it is dark outside and nothing goes better with the Dutch winter than a oliebol! Enjoy!
